Leave Nothing and No One Behind!

TONTOTON’s inclusive approach to plastic
waste management promotes the
collection and treatment of all types of
plastic, recyclable and non-recyclable. This encompasses an awareness campaign and
efforts to reduce plastic use in highly
polluted coastal villages.

How Does Your Contribution Help?

Collection

Your support aids in collecting non-recyclable plastic from highly polluted coastal villages in Cambodia, facilitated by TONTOTON’s community network.
Non-recyclable plastic has traditionally not been collected by informal waste pickers because it has no market value and therefore is at high risk of leaking to the oceans.

We gather mismanaged non-recyclable plastics from the open environment and encourage household segregation at the source. This prevents plastic leakage into the natural environment and the ocean.

Waste pickers are financially compensated for every kilogram they collect, providing additional income and support for their families.

Understanding Plastic Pollution

What Can We Do With Hard-to-Recycle Plastic?

Sorting and Processing

At TONTOTON’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF), materials are sorted into three categories: recyclable sent to recyclers, hard-to-recycle processed at TONTOTON factory, and commercially non-recyclable used as waste to energy.

Hard-to-recycle materials are cleaned, shredded, and transformed through a unique heat and press process into strong recycled plastic boards. These are utilized for building classrooms, furniture, and impact products.

To date, we have collected over 3,000 tons of non-recyclable plastic!

Community Projects

Back to the community. Collected plastic transforms into recycled plastic boards used to support childcare NGOs needs, utilizing it for classrooms and house renovations.

Awareness and Education

We advocate for inclusive solutions that combine practical collection and treatment efforts with a thorough understanding of recyclables identification, consumption reduction, and responsible plastic disposal.

We engage our communities through awareness campaigns, interactions, and open our Material Recovery Facility to students, communities, and tourists.
