ABOUT US

TONTOTON program is a pioneering sustainable solution for reducing ocean bound plastic, by neutralizing companies’ plastic footprints. On behalf of companies, we work to rescue an equivalent weight of plastic to companies’ consumption, thereby neutralizing as much of their Plastic Footprint as possible. We convert a Ton of plastic litter into a Ton of neutralized plastic, therefore calling it the Ton To Ton Program.

Single-use plastic is too light, and its value too low to be collected and recycled. Therefore, it has no market value, making it ‘orphan plastic’ that is more likely to become ocean bound plastic polluting our environment.

Abandoned Plastic Waste that will eventually end up discharged in the ocean by the effect of winds, rainfall, river flow or tides.

Ocean Bound Plastic is divided in three categories (OBP Categories):

  1. A) Potential Ocean Bound Plastic: Abandoned Plastic Waste located within a range of 50km from the shore in communities or areas where waste management is in non-existent or very inefficient. This definition excludes plastic waste collected in landfills or managed dumps but allows for the collection within unmanaged dumps.
  2. B) Waterways Ocean Bound Plastic: Abandoned Plastic Waste located within a river stream or within a distance of 200m from either side of the river stream.
  3. C) Shoreline Ocean Bound Plastic: Abandoned Plastic Waste found within 200m from the highest tide limit towards the land and 100m from the lowest tide limit towards the sea.

No. Our certification requires us to be very attentive with our collections. TTT collects Ocean Bound plastic (OBP) with a focus on low value and non-recyclable plastic waste in poor waste management areas. We call it ‘Orphan Plastic’. We are allowed to pick all kinds of Plastics made from petroleum and biosourced but this excludes any other non-Plastic wastes : All types of metal, Wood, Food, Glass, Non Plastic,Tetrapack, Non Plastic fiber made textiles, Dirt, Stones, Concrete Plaster or equivalent, Sand, Mud… etc

TTT is the first plastic neutralizing program that works and collaborates with the Ocean Bound Plastic Certification Scheme (www.obpcert.org) and Zero Plastic Oceans (zeroplasticoceans.org) adhering to the ocean-bound plastic protocols.

The protocols define what OBP is, plastic from which sources will be considered as

OBP, how to control and supervise waste pickers and collecting groups, and more.

By partnering with us, you contribute towards a new circular economy benefiting the:

– Environment; by protecting ecosystems from plastic pollution, reducing landfilling and CO2 emissions

– Society; by providing to local communities work and knowledge in this new market

– Businesses; by becoming more sustainable, reducing your plastic footprint and providing your consumers with peace of mind that you are making walk your talk.

Vietnam is the fourth-largest contributor of ocean plastic pollution globally with an estimated 2500 tons of plastic waste discharged across the country daily. Therefore, we chose to address the problem at its source to prevent plastic waste reaching the oceans.

We are operating in Southern Vietnam, in areas where waste management is in non-existent or very inefficient : Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc Island and Hon Son Island.

TTT transfers the collected OBP to co-processing treatment facilities to be used as energy for cement kilns. All the ash is blended in the cement creating zero waste. The co-processing treatment monitors CO2 emissions and is controlled 24/7. It follows the Basel Convention guidelines for co-processing – the world environmental agreement on waste.

Co-processing is a technology that uses manufacturing waste and converts it into energy, reducing the need for conventional fuels. It also recovers the mineral value of waste to use as raw material in the production of cement. All the ash is blended in the cement creating zero waste. The co-processing treatment monitors CO2 emissions and is controlled 24/7. It follows the Basel Convention guidelines for co-processing – the world environmental agreement on waste.

Under the OBP certificates “Control Union” (CU) www.petersoncontrolunion.com,

a 3rd party certification body will issue Neutralization Certificates (NC). The NC will verify the collecting, logistics and co-processing of the OBP. CU will check and confirm sources of OBP and the collection operation under their standard and will confirm the amount of the collected OBP material. In order to prevent double counting, before issuing a Neutralization Certificate to the Organization, CU will submit the Neutralization Certificate to Zero Plastic Oceans for its validation and accounting in a public registry.

We are located in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED

Put simply, neutralizing means funding ocean bound plastic collection and its treatment, equivalent to your plastic impact. This means you compensate for every ton of plastic you produce by ensuring there is one ton less in the ocean.

Every company that uses plastic in their products has an environmental Plastic Footprint.

It’s created by the virgin or recycled plastic they use as a raw material in the process of producing their specific product(s). Contact us to build your neutralization plan by telling us your plastic consumption and which proportion you would like to neutralize.

To make a noticeable difference in reducing OBP volume destined to pollute our oceans, TONTOTON is committed to creating a stable supply chain. This involves waste pickers, community, NGOs, local businesses, logistics, and recycling solutions. Therefore, engagement with TONTOTON is based on an annual agreement. Please contact us at vn@tontoton.com to know more about TONTOTON costs.

Definitely! TONTOTON will issue documents for companies to proudly share their volume of OBP neutralized each year to compensate their plastic consumption. The Certification Scheme developed by Zero Plastic Oceans offers businesses comforting assurances of their engagement in the program, and that it has been appropriately audited by Control Union. These documents will enable companies to provide reliable results through their CSR Programs.

Yes ! We will make sure that you can push your sustainable marketing.

Participating companies are part of a community of companies authorized to display a logo to depict their participation in the TONTOTON program. This logo shows customers that the plastic item they are purchasing has been ‘neutralized’, allowing customers greater ease of mind with their purchasing decisions.
